Keto: A Quick Look into Understanding Keto

Keto can be life-changing…but without trying it, you make not fully understand it. I’ve even had some people tell me that keto scares them. This response surprised me a bit honestly because keto has changed the lives of so many people in good ways.

Let’s make some healthy keto meals!

The online forums are bursting with accolades about keto, helping numerous people to:

  • Reduce inflammation
  • Lose a ton of weight (some lost 60, 100 and even 150 pounds or more)
  • Reverse type 2 diabetes
  • Eat healthier
  • Stop hunger cravings

Hey, I get it…I know that there is something called “dirty keto” and I can definitely understand how this can cause a stigma, but there are clean, healthy and delicious ways to practice keto as well.

What is Dirty Keto?

Dirty keto consists of eating mostly fatty meats, pork rinds and cheese – without any vegetables. While dirty keto works as a quick weight loss tool, it’s not ideal in many ways. It’s not balanced, lacks nutrients, fiber and can raise cholesterol levels and cause inflammation. To practice dirty keto, basically, you stock the fridge with lunch meat, bacon and cheese.

If you’re eating out on dirty keto, then you might order a bun less burger, large side of bacon and some non breaded fried chicken wings. 

What is Healthy Keto?

Alternately, there is healthy keto, which consists of a balance of vegetables, meats and healthy fats. Healthy keto is what I practice, and it can be a delicious way to eat.

All of the “bad” food items that are totally forbidden on regular low calorie diets can be enjoyed on keto. There’s an abundance of rich dishes with gooey flavorful cheeses, cream sauces, bacon and scrumptious sugar-free desserts that can be enjoyed on keto!

Following the keto diet can make you feel like you’re in heaven, especially if you’ve been accustomed to cutting calories on other diets.

My Keto Story

I followed a low-carb lifestyle off and on over the last 10 years or so . My thyroid began to act up around that time (about 10 years ago), and it became almost impossible to lose weight. The issue was that I didn’t know that my thyroid had basically stopped working. I remember joining one of the hardest workout programs ever, which made me completely exhausted…and I kept thinking, “where is the “runner’s high” that everyone brags about?” Even with practicing such a hard workout program, I barely lost a pound. If anything like this ever happens to you, definitely get your thyroid checked.

Even after getting my thyroid sorted out, my metabolism was never the same again unfortunately.  

Then a few years ago, my brother-in-law began doing keto and intermittent fasting together and dropped a ton of weight. He kept telling me that he wasn’t hungry at all. I found this impossible to believe, and just kept cutting carbs instead – without having any real results, and I was ALWAYS HUNGRY.

Enter keto…

How Do I Feel on Keto?

Enter keto! I finally made a commitment to give keto and intermittent fasting a whirl! My biggest keto surprise was that after I got into ketosis, I was NOT HUNGRY! Whoa, Whoa, Whoa, WAIT…me, not hungry? How is that humanly possible? I was completely shocked – and THRILLED! Where were all of my cravings that I experienced following other diets? Where was the stomach growling? Where my was lack of concentration because I was thinking, “what can I munch on?” all day long! All gone! It is bizarre, and totally amazing! I imagine that many of you can relate to my experience, and that’s why I began Keto Magic.

Keto really is magic!
